PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Japan-based MEIKO ELECTRONICS CO. LTD. recently began building a new printed circuit board (PCB) plant in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone in central China's Hubei Province. The new facility, known as MEIKO ELECTRONICS (WUHAN) CO. LTD., is mainly intended to produce multi-tier PCBs for ultra thin TV sets, DVD and other digital products.
The development is anticipated to require a total investment of $200,000,000 and is to be implemented in 2 phases. The first-stage project involving an expenditure of $100,000,000 will cover factory buildings totaling a floor space of 70,000 square meters as well as production and auxiliary facilities. This undertaking is scheduled for completion in April 2006. As a result, the project is expected to generate an annual output value of $100,000,000 with all its products for export.
It is said that the second-phase also requiring an investment of $100,000,000 is tentatively scheduled to begin some time in 2007. According to a company spokesman the wastewater treatment of the new company will be handled strictly in line with Chinese regulations while the standards set in Japan, Europe and America are taken as reference.
