Meiko Elec to Raise Circuit Board Sales to Carmakers in China
March 12, 2004 (BEIJING) -- Meiko Electronics Co Ltd aims to expand its automobile-related businesses by promoting its printed circuit boards to Japanese, US and European carmakers operating in China.
The move follows the ISO/TS16949 certification of the firm's Guangzhou factory. The new quality control standard meets the requirements set by major carmakers of both the US and Europe.
The firm already supplies printed circuit boards to autoparts makers affiliated with Toyota Motor Corp and Honda Motor Co Ltd.
It hopes to increase its automobile-related sales in China to account for 20% of its total sales there, from the current level of less than 10%, by actively promoting the product to carmakers and taking advantage of the expected demand growth for printed circuit boards for use in engine control systems, car navigation systems and other car electronics.
Since its operation started in April 2001, the Guangzhou plant has supplied printed circuit boards mainly to Japanese makers of DVD players, digital cameras, cellular phones and other consumer electronics.
Meiko Electronics is currently building its second plant in China at a cost of around 10 billion yen. Once construction is completed in May, the firm's monthly production capacity will double to 200,000 sq. meters of printed circuit boards.
