In a Difficult Economy, Meiko Electronics Co., Ltd. Announces Record Month

Kanagawa, Japan - January 7, 2003 - Meiko Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of Printed Circuitry, announced today a $2.5M profit for October of 2002, another record for this 28-year industry veteran.

Although the overall printed circuit board market was soft, Meiko Electronics foresees that their profitable operation will continue in the next quarter due to their strong foundation and infrastructure, and the advanced technology they were able to bring to their China plant, which began production in February of 2001.

"Our customers recognize that Meiko is the first Japanese printed circuit board manufacturer that has successfully set up volume production in China while effectively transferring the technology from our Japan facilities," says Mr. Masami Adachi, Assistant Manager of International Business Affairs. "This includes high layer count, HDI, and other advanced technologies."

"Both the China and the Japan factories focus on manufacturing leading technology with an emphasis on cost competitiveness," adds Mr. Takahide Hirayama, Director and General Manager. "That is our mission and, as our past quarter indicates, it seems to be working well."

Meiko Electronics Co. Ltd. has developed their own Via technology, called M-Via, and has been using this expertise in volume production in China since June of 2002. Because of the advanced nature of M-Via's basic construction, the process allows for flexibility in designing, high reliability and strong cost performance. Volume production will start in their second China factory in June of 2004.
